Services:
The Law Office of Baugh and Hood provides a wide range of legal services for
the suburban community of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, in both State and
Federal Courts.
The primary area of legal services provided is litigation, both criminal defense
and general civil litigation, including juvenile, estate and probate matters.
Our legal representation includes criminal defense, in State and Federal courts,
to include representation in serious felony cases, drug and white collar charges.
State court legal representation by the office includes divorce, child custody
and child support issues, juvenile matters, including delinquency and unruly
petitions, termination of parental rights, custody determinations and child
support representation.
Both Mr. Baugh and Ms. Hood have served the Chancery, Circuit and Juvenile Courts
as guardians ad litem and have experience in the representation of clients in
matters concerning conservatorships and minors.
The office also performs appellate representation in criminal and civil matters
before the Tennessee Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals and the Court of Criminal
Appeals.
Mr. Baugh is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.
About
Us:
Joseph D. Baugh is a life-long resident of Franklin, Tennessee. He attended
Franklin City Schools and is a graduate of Battle Ground Academy and Vanderbilt
University. He earned his J.D. degree from the Walter F. George School of Law
at Mercer University. Mr. Baugh was a member of the Moot Court Board and the
Order of Barrister’s.
Mr. Baugh’s family has lived and worked in Franklin for one hundred and
seventy-five years. His father was a county commissioner, a Farm Bureau director,
and a delegate to the 1978 Tennessee Constitutional Convention. His three children
and one grandchild live in the County.
Mr. Baugh is a member of the vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and
a Paul Harris Fellow in the Franklin Noon Rotary Club.
Mr. Baugh was elected as the District Attorney General for the Twenty First
District in 1982 and, again, in 1990. He served as President, Vice-President,
and on the executive committee of the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference.
He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, where he served on the Board
of Governors, and the Williamson Bar Association. He is a member of the Jurisprudence
Section of the American Association of Forensic Scientists.

The Law Offices of Baugh and Hood are located in the historic city square of
Franklin, Tennessee—a short walk from the Williamson County Courthouse.
Eighteen miles south of Nashville, Franklin was founded in 1799. The site of
a major Civil War battle in 1864, the city is home to many antebellum buildings,
including the Hiram Masonic Lodge, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Carnton
Plantation, and the Carter House.
Franklin’s rapidly growing population currently stands at 46,000. The
city is the county seat of Williamson County, Tennessee’s wealthiest and
fastest growing county. Local songwriters and entertainers, including Faith
Hill and Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, the Judds, and many others make their homes
in and around Franklin.
Recently deemed a “Preserve America” community by First Lady Laura
Bush, Franklin also is designated as one of the “Tree Cities USA.”
Mr. Baugh is a life-long resident of Franklin. His family has lived and worked
in the city for over one hundred seventy-five years.
